A pair of exceptionally well worked architectural panels of a wonderful colour. This work is redolent of Venetian Saracenic damascening on metalwork and even of Celtic inspiration. The decoration is made up of complex interlaced reeded knotwork, carved rosettes, dog tooth surrounded shell motifs, a gauged niche containing a cross, again surrounded by dog tooth carving and a further dog tooth arcaded niche with acanthus leaf. These are outstanding works of the carver's art and demonstrate the incorporation and importance of meaningful symbolic devices. England. C.1550
