A late 17th century Dorset coffer of large size, the thumb moulded top above triple panel front with line and chip carved decoration forming geometric motifs typical of this period and heightened  with black staining throughout, the stiles similarly decorated, the interior with candlebox, the whole above a single carved drawer (usually missing). This coffer is in exceptional, almost untouched condition. Great colour and original patina. England. C.1660
