A 17th century oak Welsh borders serpent coffer, the moulded triple panel top above a pair of panels carved with scrolled serpents with teeth pointed tongues, against a black stained ground, the frame carved with intricate strapwork and the drawer with running guilloche with central propeller motifs. Further black staining throughout giving the carving extra contrast. England. C.1670
